I came to Screen Door a few years ago and thought the chicken and waffles there was the best I've ever had so I knew that I HAD to go back during my most recent Portland trip. After having it again, I stand by my claim that Screen Door does in fact have the best chicken and waffles. The waffle is a sweet potato waffle, which is unique, but it complements the fried chicken so well. The fried chicken itself is well seasoned, very flavorful, and perfectly crispy. If you're a fan of spicy food like I am, I also highly recommend adding the house made hot sauce they have to the chicken; this elevated it for me and added the perfect amount of spice. The sweet, savory, and spicy flavors of this meal is just *chefs kiss*. During my last visit, I came on a Tuesday afternoon and there was no wait. The staff was friendly and attentive. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is on the casual side, but gives off a cozy, homey vibe. Unfortunately, there is no parking lot so you'll have to find street parking. Overall, I highly recommend coming here and would definitely come back if I'm in Portland.

Oh my gosh...so much food and so good. I had the fried chicken dinner but asked to substitute the breast for another thigh. The chicken was so crunchy and juicy. It had a very slight kick to it. The accompanying mashed potatoes and coleslaw were terrific too. We also ordered the fried okra appetizer which was delicious. The restaurant is casual and decorated interestingly. Service was friendly but it did take a fair amount of time to get the check and boxes. They weren't that busy with only about four tables occupied at that time...5:30pm on a Monday. Would definitely return.

Screen Door is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places in the area. I'm from South Florida and miss a good country-style breakfast. Screen Door's menu is filled with a ton of amazing dishes, the service is always swift, and the ambiance is reminiscent of an upscale Cracker Barrel (in the best way possible). I have tried many dishes here and have enjoyed every single one. I'd highly recommend starting with the praline bacon because it is truly special. I also really love the chicken & waffles and the fried chicken with mushroom gravy. I don't think you could go wrong with anything you choose here! I bring everyone visiting me here and they love it just as much as me. I highly recommend trying this place out!

Came here with some friends on a weekday morning. There were a few spots open on the outside patio where we enjoyed the nice weather and our food! Service was great, no complaints there. I would definitely recommend the cinnamon rolls - they were soft on the inside with some texture on the outside and had cream cheese and frosting. I'm not usually a huge cinnamon roll lover but I enjoyed these and would make a point to order again. Our server recommended that we eat it from the inside (most filling) to the outside. Rest of my food was pretty good too. The biscuit and chicken were the most notable on my plate. The breading on the chicken felt different than a fried chicken sandwich at most other brunch places. I made sure to eat each piece and asked for the gravy on the side. I probably could have skipped ordering eggs on the side (unless you're extra hungry)!

This brunch spot on the East side is absolutely amazing-hands down the best brunch spot in Portland. If you are someone who loves southern comfort food, you have to add this place to your list of places to try. Their chicken is so tender and flavorful and their benedict options are phenomenal. I love the outside patio seating options, it feels so homey. The servers are kind and attentive, can't wait to come back!

This place was fantastic! The restaurant was so pretty and my friends and I were sat in the outdoor area. The food was so yummy and generous with the portions, everything was amazing and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service was also quick and super nice.

While the food stood out, it was the service that really took our experience beyond. You will need a reservation. We had a reservation at 8:45am on a Sunday. We got there early (8:35am) and the line was about 4 parties out the door. They all either had a reservation or they were sitting at the bar. So, you need a reservation. The food was excellent. We ordered the Fried Okra, Banana Fosters French Toast, and Chicken and Biscuits. All dishes were delicious. My wife ordered a zero proof Lavender Spritz--I couldn't really get the lavender to come through, but it was refreshing. Inside was more open cafe style, which is fine but it gets noisy and you're close to many people. The service was awesome. Super friendly, thinking of everything, providing great recommendations, and just truly on point. Street parking, which wasn't difficult because we got there right about when the restaurant opened, but I can see it getting challenging to find parking. Note that the food takes a while to get out, which I'm okay with because it tells me that they're actually making it from scratch--or as close to scratch as possible. Try.

There's always a bit of a wait at Screen Door, but that's because it's GOOD. Can I give this 5.5 stars? Comfort food is a big deal in Portland, which I can't understand but I'm cool with it. I've been here twice now, and I wanted to visit another time during my most recent short visit to Portland. The wait is about precisely how long it takes to walk down the street and grab a cup of coffee and head back - 20ish minutes(?) We started off with some crispy fried oysters and biscuits and gravy which were gone so fast we couldn't snap any pics. Our server was real on point and hooked us up with drinks and complimentary water quickly. Our appetizers came out fast, too. I drowned nearly everything in their house made hot sauce. I even bought a bottle and mailed it to myself. The portions are monstrous, and you'll lick every last morsel off your plate. My friends and I shared some grits, veggie hash, huevos rancheros, and chicken and waffles. Screen Door gets all of the points for genuinely making over medium eggs. It's a rarity to receive over medium eggs and I continually receive over hard eggs at diners but not at Screen Door. That buttermilk batter on the chicken is something else. It's a lively restaurant and full of chatter whether you're seated indoors or outdoors. Real great spot for large parties. I recall during my visit last year, I got mixed up into a stranger's conversation and we ended up sharing bites from each other's plates (they had to try the shrimp and grits!).

Lovely brunch place in Portland that is very popular amongst tourist and locals alike, so expect a wait unless you go during off hours or make a reservation. I got the chicken and waffles, which was delicious -- the chicken was crispy on the outside but juicy, and the waffle was fluffy and bouncy. 1 piece was a perfect size for one person, but they have larger options if you you're more hungry or want to share. Definitely recommend this dish (or the chicken & biscuit) if you try Screen Door. They have plenty of savory and sweet breakfast options, plus drinks (alcoholic and non). Staff was very friendly and attentive. No designed parking so look for street parking in nearby residential areas.
